Job Description
Mustard Seeds & Mountains is a Christian Community Development agency offering Internships to College Students. We work in the heart of Appalachia in one of the poorest counties in the U.S. We have been serving the disadvantaged since 1992 by providing home repair for the needy, elderly and disabled; after-school tutoring and job skill development for children and adults in our learning center; and leadership development and recreation for youth. The work we do is demanding and immensely rewarding. Students have an opportunity to participate through Spring Break Mission Trips and Internships which span the summer, college semesters, or an entire year. Students participating in these Internships gain experience in organizing, management of volunteers, working with at-risk youth, and community development basics. Spring Break Mission Trips provide an excellent cross- cultural experience for students without having to leave the country. Because our ministry is holistic and because we live in the communities we serve, we offer unique perspectives and opportunities for students who serve with us. A significant portion of our staff is composed of local people who have been helped through our ministry. This, coupled with the reality that we are essentially relational versus task oriented in our ministry emphasis, gives students face-to-face interaction on an extended level with local people. Students who have participated have experienced powerful life challenging interactions.
