BUILD and Prayer Requests

Oak Hills Center for Indian Ministries will resume the B.U.I.L.D. outreach at the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, after taking time off over the winter months.  B.U.I.L.D. is an acronym which stands for Biblical United Indigenous Leadership Development. Oak Hills Center for Indian Ministries wanted to fill a big need. For many reasons, Native American pastors and workers are not able to leave the reservation and come study at Mokahum. We thought, “Why not take the education they so desperately need to them?” Our pilot project has been in the heart of suicide-plagued Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

Daron Butler, a Navajo pastor who is currently in Ohio, will be teaching on the topic of missions in April. Mokahum students will travel to Pine Ridge and join in the learning experience for the week. Prior to beginning the program, we sent an advance team onto the reservation to meet with local pastors and Christian leaders to discover what they wanted and needed. Classes on topics such as Bible Study Methods, Prayer, Spiritual Warfare, and The Local Church have been taught by Native and non-Native teachers. It has been extremely successful and the excitement level is high!

Prayer Requests
The hard winter has been tough on the CIM and Mokahum buildings. Repairs will need to be made this summer, producing opportunities for skilled people and teams of workers.

Mokahum student Vine Whiteface, Lakota, of Pine Ridge, South Dakota, needs your prayers. He’s been diagnosed with cancer.

Bill Haas, Director of Mokahum, continues to recover from a stroke he suffered back in July 2018. Continue to pray for him. He’s making great strides in his recovery!
