a letter from dr. giese

It is my great privilege to serve the Lord as part of a team of leaders that are creative innovators and initiators. As you will read in this issue of Direction, despite the significant challenges facing Christian ministries and especially Christian Colleges, we are deeply grateful and very excited about what God is doing at Oak Hills.

conferences and community involvement

Our Church Ministries team takes part in a wide variety of conferences and retreats representing Oak Hills and providing training and mentoring to pastors and ministry leaders. OHCM is actively involved in the local Bemidji area pastors’ network – the Net of the North, with Jim and Rick serving on the leadership team.

Rural Church
Launch of Rural Ministry Certificate Program

Too often we expect our pastors to attend some of the most expensive private schools in America in order to qualify for some of the lowest paying jobs serving churches in rural America. This is unsustainable and unacceptable. Most rural/town and country churches are unable to afford a seminary graduate with student debt.

Camp Staff
Coming up at Camp Oak Hills

In January, camp hosted its first ever winter retreat. Twenty-seven youth and leaders from two local churches enjoyed indoor games, delicious food, and Bible lessons as they made some great memories together. This summer campers will explore what it means to courageously follow Jesus, using 1 Peter 3:15.

Helwegs
Camp Missionaries

We have filled many of our summer staff positions, but there are still some openings. If you are looking for a significant way to serve Jesus this summer, prayerfully consider working at Camp Oak Hills. There are volunteer and paid positions available in areas such as counseling, programming, & kitchen help.

BUILD and Prayer Requests

For many reasons, Native American pastors and workers are not able to leave the reservation and come study at Mokahum. We thought, “Why not take the education they so desperately need to them?”

Ark
Mokahum Back to The Beginning

What if you could get a risk-free guided tour through Noah’s Ark? That is exactly what happened this past February for the Mokahum students.
